Marlinton, West Virginia
A hundred years
of welcome.
The Old Clark Inn has been anchoring a side avenue in downtown Marlinton since 1924 — first as the Clark Hotel, opened by Lucy Clark, and continuously welcoming guests ever since. We’re right in the middle of town, walkable to the trail, the river, and whatever Marlinton has going on that weekend.
Whether you came for the trail, the road, the mountains, or simply needed somewhere worth stopping — you found it.
Why people make the trip
What brings people here
The Trail
One block from the Greenbrier River Trail, the Old Clark is the natural home base for cyclists riding the GRT. Lock your bike, shower off, sleep well. Ride point to point or out and back — either way, you’ve got a real bed waiting.
The Road
Pocahontas County is a motorcyclist’s county — Highland Scenic Highway, the back roads of the Monongahela National Forest, hundreds of miles of pavement that reward the rider who takes their time. Pull in, unwind, do it all again tomorrow.
The Mountains
The Cranberry Wilderness, Monday Lick Trail System, Snowshoe Resort, and miles of Monongahela National Forest trails are all within reach. Winter or summer, the mountains here earn your attention.
The Rails
Cass Scenic Railroad is a living piece of Appalachian history — a genuine steam-powered mountain railway that’s been chugging up Cheat Mountain since the logging era. If you haven’t been, it’s worth the trip.
The inn itself
The oldest continually operating
lodging in Pocahontas County.
The Old Clark Inn has been here since 1924 — first as the Clark Hotel, opened by Lucy Clark, and continuously welcoming guests ever since. Nine guest rooms, common spaces for mingling after a long day on the road or trail, and up to 22 guests welcome under one roof.
Lucy Clark started something good here. We intend to keep it that way.
Group Stays
Coming as a group?
Cycling clubs, motorcycle tours, ski weekends, family reunions — the Old Clark is built for it. Nine guest rooms, up to 22 guests, and common spaces perfect for mingling after a long day on the road or trail.
Our sister inn
Moore House
Inn & Cabins
Tucked in the holler just outside of town — a historic 1900 farmhouse and pre-Civil War log cabins, framed by seasonal creeks and the gentle hills of Pocahontas County. If the Old Clark feels like the town, Moore House feels like the countryside.
“Same roots. Grown different.”
Two properties. One corner of West Virginia worth knowing.
